Overview
The Mughtasila were a people in the districts of Dumisan and the marshes. Ibn al-Nadim says that Abu Mani joined them, and that Mani grew up among them in their creed. 2
According to Ibn al-Nadim
He reports that a voice called out to Fatik, Abu Mani, in the temple of idols at Tisfun, that he should eat no meat, drink no wine and marry no woman. Remnants of them remained in those districts until Ibn al-Nadim's time. 2
He says that their chief was known as al-Hasih, that he established the creed, and that his disciple had the name Shim'un. They agree with the Manichaeans on the two principles, and their doctrine then diverges. Some of them venerate the stars. He says that Shayli came out of them, then Babak ibn Bahram, then Mulayh al-Khulani. 3
