Overview
Abd al-Hamid ibn Yahya was secretary to Marwan ibn Muhammad. In al-Baladhuri, he used to say of Salih ibn Abd al-Rahman, who transmitted the register of the diwan: "May God bless him, how great is his favour to the secretaries." 1
In al-Suyuti, the well-known secretary Abd al-Hamid, known as Buwsir, was killed together with Marwan. 2 Ibn al-Nadim reports that he was first a schoolmaster who moved between towns; the writers of letters learned from him and were trained by his method, and he made the way to eloquence in letters easier. He was from al-Sham, and his letters amount to about a thousand leaves. 3
