Summary
Of Banu Salim ibn Awf; Ibn Ishaq names him among the four who stayed behind without doubt, then caught up with the Prophet at Tabuk after refusing to enter his leafy arbours on a hot day. 1
In the Tabuk expedition
Ibn Ishaq names him among the "party of truth, not suspected in their Islam" who stayed behind without doubt or misgiving. 1 He returned to his family after the Prophet had travelled days, refused to shade himself in his two wives' arbours while the Prophet was in the heat, and went out until he caught up with the Prophet at Tabuk. 2 Ibn Hisham says his name was Malik ibn Qays and that he spoke verse on it. 3
Tribe
Ibn Ishaq gives his lineage: brother of Banu Salim ibn Awf. 1
Source notes and markers of doubt
- Ibn Hisham said: "and his name was Malik ibn Qays" (p. 164); the museum does not verify this in another batch.
