Overview
Abu Sa'd ibn Adi: Abd al-Muttalib's maternal uncle of Banu al-Najjar; he came to Mecca with eighty riders and drew his sword at the Sacred Precinct until his nephew had his right restored.
Life
When Nawfal ibn Abd Manaf seized his nephew Abd al-Muttalib's property after al-Muttalib's death, Abd al-Muttalib asked Quraysh men for aid against his uncle and they said they would not come between him and his uncle; so he wrote to his maternal uncles of Banu al-Najjar verses calling them to his aid 1.
His uncle Abu Sa'd ibn Adi rode out with eighty riders until he alighted at al-Abtah in Mecca; he went for Nawfal where he sat in the Precinct with Quraysh's elders, drew his sword and said: "by the Lord of this House, if you do not return my nephew's property to him I will make this sword have its way with you." Nawfal returned it and made Quraysh's elders bear witness 1.
