علي بابا ملك البجة

علي بابا ملك البجة

In al-Baladhuri: the Buja's king in al-Mutawakkil's time who fought Muhammad al-Qummi on armored camels that bolted at the horses' bells; he asked safety and made peace in 241 on tribute, baqt, and not barring Muslims from the gold mine — in al-Maqrizi's version he came to Samarra, al-Mutawakkil robed him in brocade, and he returned with al-Qummi still on his religion, carrying a stone idol like a boy he prostrated to.

البجة

In al-Baladhuri: a desert people with camels and herds whose land — a month's barren march of rugged mountains from Islam's lands — holds the gold mines; they raided Egypt's land and withheld the mines' dues, so Muhammad al-Qummi warred on them in al-Mutawakkil's time — their camels skittish at everything, he hung bells on his horses and the camels bolted — and they made peace in 241 on tribute and baqt.
