Overview

Hababa, a singing slave-girl. Umm Sa'id al-Uthmaniyya, grandmother of Yazid ibn Abd al-Malik, bought her by a trick, because he had long held some feeling towards her. Yazid gave Salama the priest to Umm Sa'id. Hababa then sent to al-Ahwas and Ma'bad, and they sang to him a verse beginning "Life is nothing but what delights and what one desires." 1
