Overview

Hammad al-Rawiya, a transmitter of poetry. Al-Mas'udi reports his account of Layla al-Akhyaliyya and the repentance of Tawba ibn al-Humayyir. 2.

The account

It is reported that the husband of Layla made her swear that she would go down into the grave of Tawba. She went down weeping and greeted him. The grave then opened to reveal a bird like a white dove; she struck her breast and fell down dead, and was buried beside his grave. 2.

This is an account given on the authority of its transmitter, and al-Mas'udi does not present it as a certain report.
