Overview

Ibn Aisha al-Qurashi, the singer of al-Walid ibn Yazid. 2

The gathering

Al-Mas'udi relates that he sang for al-Walid a verse about the houris he had seen on the morning of the sacrifice. Al-Walid asked him to repeat it by the right of Abd Shams, then by the right of Umayya, moving from ancestor to ancestor until he reached al-Walid himself. Al-Walid then bent over him and kissed him, threw his own garments over him, ordered a gift of a thousand dinars, and had him mounted on his mule. 2

Al-Mas'udi notes that Yazid, the father of al-Walid, had himself been moved by the same poem when it was sung to him. 2
