Overview
An Abbasid vizier, who held the vizierate in 316 AH and was removed from it in 318 AH. 1
Vizierate and removal
With al-Qahir and al-Radi
Al-Suyuti relates that the vizierate was delegated to him when al-Qahir was given the title in 317 AH, and that he agreed with Mu'nis and others to depose al-Qahir in 321 AH. He went into hiding and his house was burned. Al-Radi ordered him to write a book on the faults of al-Qahir, to be read out to the people. 4
Ibn al-Athir says that he plotted the deposition of al-Qahir in 322 AH, meeting with the commanders at night in secret. 5 He relates that al-Qahir removed him after Mu'nis was arrested, and sealed his house, which was then plundered. 6 During his vizierate for al-Muqtadir he arrested al-Shalmaghani and imprisoned him. 7
Ibn al-Jawzi says that he feared al-Qahir and went into hiding, and incited the troops against him; they deposed him and blinded his eyes. 8 The sources differ on the years (321, 322 and 333 AH), and the order of events needs review.
Calligraphy
Ibn al-Nadim mentions him in the section on the calligraphy of Qur'an copies and of scribes. 9
His son
Ibn al-Athir says that his son al-Husayn ibn Muqla served as vizier to al-Muttaqi. 10
Among the reports about him is one linked to Ibn Shanabudh.
