Overview

Muwaffaq al-Din Abu al-Baqa Ya'ish ibn Ali ibn Ya'ish al-Asadi, a grammarian known as Ibn al-Sa'igh. Of Mosul origin, he was born in Aleppo. 2

Learning

He studied grammar with Fityan al-Halabi and al-Maghribi al-Nirwazi. In the early part of his life he travelled from Aleppo to Baghdad to meet Ibn al-Anbari. When he reached Mosul he learned that Ibn al-Anbari had died, so he stayed there and then returned to Aleppo. 2

In Damascus

He met al-Kindi in Damascus, and asked him about the parsing of a passage that al-Hariri had mentioned in the Rahbiyya maqama. Ibn Khallikan says that the answer was obscure to al-Kindi. 2
