Overview
Al-Baladhuri says that he was the secretary of Abd al-Rahman ibn Habib al-Fihri. He had a friendship and correspondence with Abd al-Hamid ibn Yahya, secretary of Marwan ibn Muhammad, and Marwan confirmed Abd al-Rahman over the frontier of the Maghrib. 1
Ibn al-Nadim says that he was an eloquent epistolary writer raised in the chanceries, and that he had letters collected in about two hundred leaves. 2
