Overview

Layla daughter of Hilwan ibn Imran ibn al-Haf ibn Qudaa, mother of the sons of Ilyas ibn Mudar, and called Khindif. 1

Al-Mas'udi relates that her sons were named after occasions. Amir went out hunting and cooked, and so was called Tabikha; Umayr shrank into the tent, and so was called Qam'a. Their mother went out hurrying, and Ilyas said to her: "Where are you going, Khindifa?" and so she was called Khindif. The sons of Ilyas were ascribed to their mother, following the saying of Qusayy: "My mother is Khindif and my father is Ilyas." 1
