Overview

Maymun ibn Mihran al-Jazari al-Raqqi, one of the jurists among the Successors and judges of al-Jazira in the Umayyad period. 1

In al-Jazira

Al-Baladhuri relates from him that the whole of al-Jazira was conquered by Iyad ibn Ghanm after the death of Abu Ubayda, and that he was a man of it and the most knowledgeable of people about its reports. 2

Al-Salabi says that he was close to Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz and among his advisers, and that he held the land tax and the judgeship of al-Jazira. Umar is related to have said that when people lose men like Maymun and his peers, they become unstable. 1

His death

Ibn al-Imad says that he died in 117 AH and that he was among the captives of Istakhr. The Gregorian date (around 735 CE) is calculated, and the report rests on one source. 3
