Overview

Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Musa ibn Ja'far, known as al-Jawad. Al-Mas'udi says that he died on the fifth of Dhu al-Hijja 219 AH at the age of twenty-five, and was buried in Baghdad in the cemetery of Quraysh beside his grandfather Musa ibn Ja'far; the caliph al-Wathiq prayed over him. 1

Al-Mas'udi also relates that Umm al-Fadl, daughter of al-Ma'mun, poisoned him when she brought him from Medina to al-Mu'tasim, and that the people of the imamate differed about his age at the death of his father. 1
