Mulla Muhyi al-Din al-Tukshari

Mulla Muhyi al-Din Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Hasan al-Tukshari al-Rumi al-Hanafi, the imam and learned scholar. He knew Arabic, the transmitted and the rational sciences, and was skilled in the mathematical sciences. He studied with Mulla Fath Allah al-Shirwani and read with al-Husam al-Tawqati, Mulla Yusuf Bali ibn Muhammad al-Fanari and Mulla Yakan. He had the whole Qur'an by heart, knew the readings, and was skilled in exegesis. Every Friday he preached to people, sometimes at Hagia Sophia and sometimes at the Sultan Muhammad mosque. He was of good character, content with little, busy with improving himself, and devoted to God 1.

He wrote a commentary on the chapter of Smoke, and glosses on al-Baydawi's commentary and on Sadr al-Shari'a's commentary on al-Wiqaya. When the time came for him to be made a judge, he delayed it. He finished the commentary at Hagia Sophia and then said: "People, I asked God Most High to give me time to finish the Qur'an, so that God may perhaps close my life with goodness and faith." He prayed, and the people said amen to his prayer. Then he returned to his house in Constantinople, fell ill, and died in the year 901 1.
