The book says he was occupied fighting the Basques when news of the Muslim attack reached him, and he returned in haste to repel it. It says that the sons of Gheteshah and those with them abandoned him in the battle ¹.

He perished in the valley of Guadalete, and the accounts differ between drowning and killing ¹. The book does not give the dates of his reign; an additional source is needed.
