Overview

Son of Hudhayfa ibn al-Yaman. He was killed as a martyr at Siffin in the year 36 AH, together with his brother Sa'd 2.

His father's counsel

Al-Mas'udi reports that their father called him and his brother to his deathbed and urged them toward martyrdom alongside Ali. He said to them: "Carry me and stay with him, for there will be wars in which many people will perish. Strive to be martyred alongside him, for he is upon the truth." Both of them were martyred at Siffin 2.

Notes for researchers

  • The judgement that Ali was "upon the truth" is Hudhayfa's words as al-Mas'udi reports them, not the museum's view. It needs an additional source.
