Overview
Salih ibn Kaysan, one of the senior Successors. Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz, governor of Medina in the time of al-Walid ibn Abd al-Malik, entrusted him with supervising the building and enlargement of the Prophet ﷺ's Mosque. The work took about three years, and al-Walid visited Medina in the year 90 AH to see how the work was going 1.
His service as a tutor
al-Salabi reports that Abd al-Aziz ibn Marwan chose him as tutor for his son Umar. He used to keep him to the prayers in the mosque, and he criticised him for being late to the congregation because of his poetry 2.
