Saladin's grandfather, of the Rawadiyya Kurds at Dvin, who brought his sons Shirkuh and Ayyub to Baghdad and died at Tikrit under a dome; Ibn Khallikan traced the family and found no ancestor named beyond Shadhi — the Adnani pedigree in the scroll he saw he treated as fabricated 1.

Overview

Shadhi ibn Marwan, grandfather of Salah al-Din. He came from Dawin, at the far end of the district of Azerbaijan, and was of the Ruwadiyya Kurds, of the Hadhbaniyya branch 1.

His family

He took his two sons, Shirkuh and Ayyub, to Baghdad. Then they settled in Tikrit, and he died there, and there is a dome over his grave inside the town 1.

Ibn Khallikan says that he traced their lineage at length and found no one who gave Shadhi another father. He cited a genealogy arranged by al-Harashi that links them to Adnan, and took it to be fabricated 1.
