Overview
Taqi al-Din Umar ibn Shahanshah, nephew of Salah al-Din Yusuf ibn Ayyub. In the year 566 AH he bought the houses of al-Izz in Egypt and built them as a madrasa for the Shafi'is 1.
The battle of Ramla
At the battle of Ramla in the year 573 AH he charged his son Ahmad against the Franks. Ahmad made an impression on them, then turned back against them and was killed as a martyr, as Ibn al-Athir reports 2.
