Ubaydallah ibn al-Mahdi

عبيد الله بن المهدي

Ubaydallah ibn al-Mahdi al-Abbasi; al-Rashid's grantee of the Ahwaz musarra'a lands — a doubt arose, men raised it to al-Ma'mun, who ordered them reviewed: what held no doubt was executed, what was doubtful was named 'the doubted' — a practice still known in al-Ahwaz.

Overview

Ubayd Allah ibn al-Mahdi al-Abbasi. al-Rashid granted him the sharecropping of land in al-Ahwaz, and a doubt entered into it, so some people referred the matter to al-Ma'mun 1.

The doubtful land

al-Ma'mun ordered that the matter be examined. What was free of doubt he confirmed, and what was doubted was called "the doubtful" (al-mashkuk fihi), and this is known in al-Ahwaz 1.
