A Khazraji Companion who, hearing the Prophet's call to a paradise wide as the heavens at Badr, threw away the dates he was eating — reckoning life until they were finished too long — and fought until he was killed.

Summary
His scene at Badr
When the Prophet roused the Muslims to fight, saying "rise to a Paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth", Umayr said: bakh, bakh! — and when asked what had moved him to say it he said: no, by God, Messenger of God — only the hope of being one of its people. He said: "then you are of its people" 1 2.
He took out some dates from his quiver and began to eat them, then said: if I live until I finish these dates of mine, that is a long life indeed — and he threw away the dates he had and fought until he was killed 2.
