Overview
Uqba ibn al-Hajjaj al-Salluli, amir of al-Andalus appointed by Ubayd Allah ibn al-Habhab 2.
The amirate
He remained five years, praiseworthy in conduct and a fighter for the cause, until the Muslims' dwelling reached Narbonne, and their frontier (as the text reads) was on the river of Rudhuna, as al-Maqqari reports 2.
al-Salabi reports that Ibn al-Habhab sent him after the dismissal of Abd al-Malik ibn Qatan, and that he settled in Septimania and conquered some lands of Galicia 3.
His end
The two accounts differ. al-Maqqari reports that Abd al-Malik ibn Qatan al-Fihri attacked him in the year 121 AH and killed him. He transmits from al-Razi that the people of al-Andalus rose against him in Safar of the year 123 AH, in the caliphate of Hisham ibn Abd al-Malik, and that he died at Qarqashuna 2.
al-Salabi reports that the people of al-Andalus deposed him and that he died at Cordoba 3.
