Overview
Yuhanna ibn Masawayh, a senior physician to kings and a prolific scholar. Ibn al-Nadim described him as excellent. He served al-Ma'mun, al-Mu'tasim, al-Wathiq and al-Mutawakkil. It is reported that he was among those sent to the lands of the Byzantines in one of the reports 2.
An anecdote
Among his reports is that Ibn Hamdun, the boon-companion, mocked him in the presence of al-Mutawakkil, and Ibn Masawayh answered him with a sharp reply, which Ibn al-Nadim records 3.
