Overview
The Fortress of al-Zaynabi is a fortress in Rayy, beside its outskirts. It is also called the Fortress of Farkhan ibn al-Zaynabi, and it was once called Arin. 1
His companion Ibn al-Zaynabi made a peace agreement with Urwa ibn Zayd on behalf of the people of Rayy and Qumis, for five hundred thousand dirhams, on condition that none of them be killed, enslaved, or have their fire temple demolished, and that they pay the same tax as the people of Nihawand. The officials of Rayy used to stay in it and gather in a mosque in its presence. 1
Then it was taken into al-Mahdi's city of Muhammadiyya. Al-Mahdi ordered it repaired and lodged in it; it overlooks the congregational mosque and the house of government. It was afterwards made a prison. A poem by al-Fatmash ibn al-A'war is recorded there. 1
