The Green Gulf, which is the Persian Sea, is a branch of the Indian and Chinese seas. Al-Idrisi describes it passing west of Sind, Makran, Kirman and Fars to al-Ubulla, then turning south through Bahrain and al-Yamama, and connecting with Oman and the land of al-Shihr. He estimates its length at about four hundred and forty farsakhs. 1
