What is the Prophetic hadith?

The Prophetic hadith is what was transmitted from the Prophet ﷺ as saying, action or approval. For Muslims it is the second source of legislation after the Qur'an.

Hadith was gathered into great collections such as the Sahih of al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim, and the science of the terminology of hadith arose to serve it. The entry on the Prophetic hadith sets out its meaning and collections, and it is linked to the Qur'an among the roots of legislation.
