Overview
A dome built by the caliph al-Muhtadi (255–256 AH), with four doors. He sat in it to hear the complaints of the common people and the elite. 2
In the context of his reforms
Taqqush says that al-Muhtadi began his reform programme with himself: he stripped himself of the pomp and ornament of life, and enjoined what is right and forbade what is wrong. Every Friday he would attend the congregational mosque, preach to the people and lead them in prayer, and he oversaw the government offices. 2
He adds that his severity weighed heavily on the common people and the elite, until they grew weary. 2
