al-Aqra' ibn Habis Takes Juzjan

فتح الجوزجان على يدي الأقرع بن حابس

al-Juzjan

Fugitives reached Juzjan; al-Ahnaf sent al-Aqra' ibn Habis al-Tamimi with horse and the charge: 'sons of Tamim — love one another, give freely, set your affairs right, and open with the jihad of your bellies and loins; let your faith be sound and do not defraud, that your jihad prosper'. A first turn went against the Muslims; they wheeled back, routed the foe and stormed Juzjan — Ibn al-Ghariza's verses mourning the youths fallen between its two castles.

Balkh's Sulh and al-Ahnaf's Khwarizm March

Al-Ahnaf took Talaqan by sulh and Faryab — or Umair ibn al-Ahmar did — then marched on Balkh, the city of the Tukhara, whose people truced at four hundred thousand, or seven hundred on the sounder report; he left Asid ibn al-Mutashammis — some say his nephew — over it, then went against Khwarizm, all beyond the river with an eastern city, could not take it, and came back to a Balkh whose sulh Asid had already levied.
