Overview

At the end of 64 AH a battle was fought at Marj Rahit, east of Damascus, between Marwan ibn al-Hakam and the supporters of the Umayyads on one side, and the supporters of Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr on the other. Victory went to Marwan. 1

The book holds that it was the beginning of the Umayyads' recovery of a state that had been very close to collapse. 1

The army of Ibn al-Zubayr in Syria was led by al-Dahhak ibn Qays al-Fihri. 2

The book gives the date in the Hijri calendar, and it has not been converted here.

the Cave of Qasyun (Jibril's Cave)

The mosque raised inside the cave of Mount Qasyun by Abu al-Faraj Muhammad ibn Abd Allah ibn al-Mu'allim beginning in 370, after a dream in which Jibril bade him build a mosque where God's name would be remembered — he called it Jibril's Cave; a broad prayer-hall floored in white marble, its columns all marble, never empty of the pious at remembrance.
