Overview
The conquest
In the biography of Barsbay it is said that conquests were made in his days, among them Magusa and then the rest of the island. Its king, Janus, was taken captive, and few of the Muslims were killed. 1
The captive king
Janus and those with him were presented to the sultan while in their chains. Barsbay's eyes filled with tears and he declared praise and thanks. Then he released him after imposing the jizya on him. He sent the price of the captives and the booty to the sultan's treasury, and distributed part of it among the fighters. 1
