مقتل حجر أبي امرئ القيس
مقتل حجر أبي امرئ القيس
c. 500 CE
The killing of Hujr, father of Imru' al-Qays: Asad's tributary king answered their expulsion of his tax-collectors by seizing and clubbing their chiefs, until their kahin Awf ibn Rabi'a prophesied him 'first to be stripped tomorrow' — the tribe stormed his tent and Ilba' ibn al-Harith speared him, kindling Imru' al-Qays's long war of vengeance on Asad 1.

Overview
Hujr ibn al-Harith al-Kindi, father of the poet Imru' al-Qays, was killed by the Banu Asad, in an account Ibn al-Athir relates. 1
The account
His father had made him king over the Banu Asad, Ghatafan and Kinana, and they owed him a reward and a tribute. When the Banu Asad drove out his tax-collectors and beat them, he marched against them with troops from Rabi'a, Qays and Kinana. He took their chiefs and began killing them with a staff, and imprisoned their nobles, among them Ubayd ibn al-Abras. 1
His killing
Ibn al-Athir says that their soothsayer, Awf ibn Rabi'a, foretold the king's death, so they attacked him in his tent. Ilba ibn al-Harith al-Kahili stabbed him, for Hujr had killed his father. Then they plundered his camels, women and possessions. 1
His death kindled a war of vengeance by Imru' al-Qays against the Banu Asad. 1
The date is approximate in the data (around the sixth century CE) and needs an additional source. The figure Hujr ibn al-Harith al-Kindi has his own page.
