Battle over the Quraysh standard at Uhud

القتال على لواء المشركين في أحد وإبادة حمَلَتِه

23 March 625 CE · 7 Shawwal 3 AH

Mount Uhud

The weight of the battle circled the polytheists' standard, which was carried by the Banu Abd al-Dar. The first to bear it, Talha ibn Abi Talha, was killed by al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam. The Banu Abd al-Dar carried it in turn until they were wiped out: Uthman, Abu Sa'd, Artat, Shurayh, Abu Zayd ibn Abd Manaf, Ibn Sharhabil and others. Last to carry it was an Abyssinian slave named Sawab, who fought until his hands were cut off and fell upon it with his chest until he was killed. The standard fell to the ground with none left to bear it {cite:mubarakpuri-raheeq p.259}.
