Summary
An umra the Prophet performed in Dhu al-Qa'da of year 8 AH (February 630 CE) from al-Ji'rrana by night, after finishing the division of Hunayn's spoils; he circumambulated and ran at the Sacred House, confirmed Attab ibn Asid as governor of Mecca, then turned back with his army to Medina 1.
The rites and the return
The Prophet entered ihram for the umra from al-Ji'rrana by night, entered Mecca and performed the umra's rites — circumambulation and the run — then departed that same night, returning to al-Ji'rrana in the morning 1.
He ordered the spoils' remainder held at al-Ji'rrana, appointed Attab ibn Asid ibn Abi al-Is over Mecca and confirmed him as governor of the sanctuary, then the Messenger of God went on homeward to Medina in late Dhu al-Qa'da of year eight 1.
For young visitors
After the fighting ended and the spoils were divided, the Prophet put on the ihram garments and visited the honoured Ka'ba in Mecca to perform the umra rites, then returned in peace with his companions to Medina.
