Summary

A spot between Mecca and Ta'if where the Prophet held the captives and spoils of Hunayn; where he received Hawazin's delegation and returned to them six thousand captives; where he divided the fay' among Quraysh's nobles and Najd's chiefs to reconcile their hearts; and from which he entered ihram for his umra in Dhu al-Qa'da 8 AH 1.

In Ibn Hisham's Sira

The Prophet camped at al-Ji'rana after returning from the siege of Ta'if, where more than a hundred thousand head of livestock and captives had gathered 2. There he gave the Ansar his famous sermon in the enclosure, and entered ihram for umra at night — so it became the miqat for Meccans' umra 3.
