يوم البردان

يوم البردان

c. 490 CE

The day of al-Burdan: Ziyad ibn al-Habula, the Salihid king of Syria, raided the tents of Hujr 'Akil al-Murar', king of Kinda and Rabi'a, while their men were away campaigning in Bahrayn, carrying off Hind bint Zalim among the captives; Hujr's host caught up with him at al-Burdan by Ayn Abagh — famous for the night-scouting of Sudus ibn Shayban and Sulay' ibn Abd Ghanm inside Ziyad's camp 1.

حرب البسوس

The Basus war, the longest and most storied of the Arabs' days: when the mare-camel Sarab strayed into Kulayb's forbidden spring pasture he shot her udder as threatened, and al-Basus's cry of shame — 'wa-dhalah!' — told her nephew Jasas ibn Murra that honour demanded blood; he speared Kulayb ibn Rabi'a, the Taghlibi lord under whom all Ma'add had united, and Kulayb's brother al-Muhalhil spent forty years exacting the feud between Bakr and Taghlib.
