Overview

Al-Athbaj is a branch of Banu Hilal ibn Amir. 1

Some of them settled in Barqa, and Iyad settled at the Mountain of the Fortress. Their Ifriqiya branches settled the villages of al-Zab, among those who were there before them from the Zanata and the forerunners of the conquest, and the people of al-Zab became known through them. Among them were the Banu Muzni, the emirs of Biskra. 1

They were the first of the Hilali peoples to settle in Ifriqiya, and the most settled in villages. 1
