Summary
Fatima bint Asad ibn Hashim ibn Abd Manaf, mother of Ali ibn Abi Talib and his brothers 1.
Her death
Some say she died before the hijra; the sound view at Ibn Hajar is that she emigrated and died in Medina — al-Sha'bi asserted it: she became Muslim, emigrated, and died in Medina 1.
Ibn Abi Asim relates from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Umar ibn Ali ibn Abi Talib from his father that the Prophet shrouded Fatima bint Asad in his own shirt, saying: "we met none more kind to me after Abu Talib than her" 1.
Other reports
Al-Zubayr ibn Bakkar says she was the first Hashimi woman to bear a successor, then after her Fatima al-Zahra' 1. Ibn Sa'd says she was a righteous woman; the Prophet would visit her and take his midday rest in her house 1. The books of reports relate that Ali told his mother: let Fatima be spared the water-carrying and going out on errands, and I will spare you the grinding and kneading 1.
