Overview
Harun ibn Gharib, a commander in the service of the Abbasid caliph al-Muqtadir. Al-Mas'udi reports that al-Muqtadir sent him towards Qazvin to fight Asfar ibn Shiruyah. There were wars between them, in which Harun was exposed, and a great many of his companions were killed at the gate of Qazvin. 2
In Ibn al-Athir
Ibn al-Athir reports that he advised al-Muqtadir, together with Munis and the chamberlain Nasr, to kill Ibn al-Furat and his son in 312 AH. 3
He was killed in 322 AH. Al-Qahir had appointed him over the water of Kufa, the reed-beds of Dinawar and Masbadhan. When al-Qahir was deposed, Harun thought he had the better claim to the office, through his kinship with al-Radi, since he was the maternal cousin of al-Muqtadir. He wrote to the commanders in Baghdad and marched to Khanaqin, where Muhammad ibn Yaqut met him, and then he was killed. 4
The details of the battle in the museum's data are fragmentary, and need an additional source.
