Overview

A Companion from Juhayna, known to us from his transmission of the report of the expedition of Ghalib ibn Abdallah against the Banu al-Mulawwah. He relates it in the first person in Ibn Ishaq's version. 1

The lookout

When they drew near al-Kudayd, his companions sent him as a lookout on a hill overlooking the people. He lay flat on it. A man of the enemy came out and saw him, and shot him with two arrows. Jundab pulled the two arrows out of his side and stayed in his place, until the man said to his wife: "If he were a lookout he would have moved." The man then returned to his tent. 2 Then he relates the raid at the break of dawn, the driving off of camels, and the flood of the valley of Qudayd, which came between the Muslims and their pursuers. 3

Notes on the report

  • The whole account of the expedition is with him, from Muslim ibn Abdallah ibn Khubayb al-Juhani, from Jundab ibn Makith, and he is the only transmitter of its details. 1
