Overview

Ghalib ibn Abd Allah al-Kalbi, "Kalb Layth" as Ibn Ishaq distinguishes him from the Kalb of Quda'a, a Companion whom the Prophet appointed over two expeditions which Ibn Ishaq lists among the expeditions: the first to the Banu al-Mulawwah at al-Kudayd, and the second to the land of the Banu Murra. 1 2

The raid on the Banu al-Mulawwah

It is reported by Jundub ibn Makith al-Juhani: they set out until at al-Kudayd they took al-Harith ibn Malik Ibn al-Barsa' and bound him. They launched the raid at the time before dawn, and their password was "Kill, kill". They drove off the camels, and the people pursued them, but the flood of the valley of al-Kudayd came between them without any cloud. See the expedition. 3 4

The raid on the land of the Banu Murra

Ibn Ishaq counts for him a second expedition to the land of the Banu Murra, in which Mirdas ibn Nuhayk, their ally from Juhayna, was struck. He was killed by Usama ibn Zayd (may God be pleased with him) and a man of the Ansar after he had pronounced the testimony of faith. See the expedition. 2
