Khalid ibn Sinan al-'Absi

خالد بن سنان العبسي

The prophet of Banu 'Abs in the interval between Jesus and Muhammad — his curse cut the 'anqa's line, and his death-bed charge to exhume him at the grey donkey's circling was undone by his sons' fear of the 'exhumed one's sons' taunt; his aged daughter came to the Prophet ﷺ, who welcomed her as a prophet's child betrayed by her people 1.

Overview

Al-Mas'udi relates from Ibn Abbas that he was a prophet of the Banu Abs in the interval between Jesus and Muhammad. 1

His story

He is said to have prayed against the phoenix (al-'anqa'), and God cut off its offspring. When death came to him he charged his people to bury him in a sand dune and guard his grave. They then watched it, and when the donkey he had described appeared, his children refused to exhume him, so that they would not be shamed by being the sons of the exhumed man. 1

The same report says that his daughter came to the Prophet, who honoured her and said: "Welcome to the daughter of a prophet whom his people neglected." This is a report from al-Mas'udi alone, and it needs an additional source.
