Overview

Maysur, a Fatimid commander of the Kutama. He marched with great armies to the relief of Kairouan against Abu Yazid in 333 AH. 2

The battle

Ibn al-Athir says that his right wing was defeated, then Abu Yazid charged at him and his companions were routed. Maysur turned his horse, which stumbled and threw him, and the Banu Kalmalan fought in his defence. He was killed and his head was carried to Abu Yazid and paraded through Kairouan. 2

Ibn Khaldun's account

Ibn Khaldun says that he had been a servant of the Qa'im whom he sent to fight Abu Yazid. Abu Kamalan was with him, and they wrote to Abu Yazid and entered into a treachery against Maysur. The Qa'im warned them and drove them away, and they joined Abu Yazid. 3
