An Abbasid prince, son of al-Wathiq. When al-Mu'tazz was brought before the court, Muhammad ibn al-Wathiq rose and embraced him and they sat together on the throne, in the context of al-Mu'tazz's deposition 1.

Overview
Muhammad ibn al-Wathiq, an Abbasid prince. Al-Mas'udi relates that when the caliphate was offered to al-Mu'tazz after the deposition of al-Muhtadi, Muhammad ibn al-Wathiq embraced him in welcome, and they sat together on the couch. 1
