Overview

Mutarrif al-Jurjani, the minister of Asfar ibn Shiruya, who was addressed as "the President". Al-Mas'udi relates the account of his plan to collect money. 2

The money plan

He advised Asfar to flatter the ruler of Khurasan and tempt him with money and with establishing the call. 2

The ruler of Khurasan made money a condition, and a dinar was levied on every head, Muslim, dhimmi and stranger alike. Great sums were gathered, and after the agreed amount was sent, a million dinars and more remained. 2

When Mardawij took control of the army, he summoned Mutarrif and extracted money from him. 2
