Overview

Qilij Arslan ibn Sulayman ibn Qutlumush, sultan of the Seljuks of Rum, and son of Sulayman ibn Qutlumush. After his father he ruled Konya, Aksaray and the rest of the lands of Rum. 1

The Franks and Mosul

Ibn Khaldun reports that when the Franks advanced on the coasts of Syria in 490 AH, they passed through his lands and he contested them. He then seized Mosul, Diyar Bakr and their districts, and sat on the throne 1.

His death

Jawali Saqawu besieged al-Rahba, and Qilij Arslan marched from Mosul to fight him. His people deserted him, so he charged Jawali himself and unhorsed the standard-bearer. Then Jawali's men defeated him, and he threw himself into the Khabur and drowned. His son Mas'ud governed the lands of Rum 1.

The year of his death is estimated in our data at about 500 AH. That estimate is marked as open to question, and an additional source is needed.
