Overview
Sulayman ibn Yaqzan al-Kalbi, known as al-A'rabi, governor of Barcelona and Girona, of Yemeni affiliation 2.
The alliance against Abd al-Rahman I
Taqqush reports that in the year 157 AH he plotted with Husayn ibn Yahya al-Ansari, governor of Zaragoza, and Abd al-Rahman ibn Habib al-Fihri, known as al-Saqlabi, governor of the lands of the Maghrib, to fight Abd al-Rahman I and depose him. All of them received the encouragement of the caliph al-Mahdi 2.
Meeting Charlemagne
He felt his weakness, and in the year 160 AH he got in touch with Charlemagne the Carolingian at Paderborn. He agreed with him that he would attack the northern provinces of al-Andalus, and pledged to hand over to him the cities he governed. He took part in the Paderborn agreement. Taqqush counts this among the earliest recorded contacts between Islam and the Carolingian state 2.
