Overview

Umayya ibn Ishaq al-Umawi, brother of the vizier Ahmad ibn Ishaq. He was in the city of Shantarin, one of the frontier fortresses of al-Andalus 2.

After his brother's killing

Abd al-Rahman al-Nasir arrested Ahmad ibn Ishaq and killed him. When that reached Umayya, he rebelled and came under the protection of Rudhmir, king of the Jalaliqa. He helped him against the Muslims and guided him to their weaknesses, as al-Mas'udi reports 2.

One day he went out hunting, and his attendants took control of the city and barred him from it, and wrote to Abd al-Rahman. Then Rudhmir made him his vizier and counted him among his nobles 2.

Return

Umayya asked Abd al-Rahman for safe conduct, and he accepted it with good grace 2.
