Overview

Abu Sa'id Uthman ibn Abi al-Ala' Idris ibn Abd Allah ibn Abd al-Haqq, shaykh of the holy warriors in Granada in the time of the Banu al-Ahmar. He died on Sunday, the second of Dhu al-Hijja in the year 730 AH 2.

The shaykhate of the holy warriors

al-Maqqari reports that the Banu al-Ahmar agreed to give the shaykhate of the holy warriors to one of the relatives of the Banu Marin, because they were the first to rule al-Andalus when their cousins took the kingdom of the Maghrib, so there was no rivalry between them 2.

The inscription on his grave

Ibn Khaldun transmits what was written on his grave: that he lived eighty-eight years, which he spent in the way of God, and that he had completed, according to what is well known, seven hundred and thirty-two raids. The inscription described him as the shaykh of the defenders and the sword of jihad 2.
