Overview

Zaynab bint Sulayman ibn Ali. al-Mas'udi reports that she was the most learned of the women of the Banu Hashim, and ranked in the assembly of al-Khayzuran. al-Mahdi had instructed that they should take from her manners, for she was an old woman who had known their earliest 1.

With al-Ma'mun

She was the most highly placed of the Abbas's offspring in lineage, and the oldest of them in years. The Hashimites gathered to her, and she spoke to al-Ma'mun about his changing the green. She said that he was more able to show kindness to his family of the children of Ali, without removing a practice of his fathers, than they could show kindness to him. He said to her that no one had spoken to him with words more effective than hers, and then he returned to wearing black 2.
